SHC Hub Volunteer recognised
One of the volunteers at the SHC Employability and Wellbeing hub has been recognised at the 2025 Step 2 Skills annual awards Ceremony.
Ravi engaged with South Hill Centre in 2023 and worked closely with the team on supporting the Multiply project.
Ravi was awarded the ‘Runners up’ position in the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award.
The judging panel stated:
“Ravi’s determination to transform his life through education, while navigating personal challenges, is genuinely inspiring. His kindness, passion for learning, and dedication to supporting others make him a truly deserving nominee.
His passion for maths led him to enrol on a Multiply course. He viewed it not only as cognitive rehab, but a way to reconnect with people and rediscover his confidence. Ravi also expressed interest in the Multiply Ninja role—promoting maths learning and helping others break through their fear of numeracy. After introducing Ravi to the South Hill Centre in Hemel, he soon became a regular volunteer there. Despite living in St Albans and travelling by public transport, Ravi committed to volunteering twice a week. Some days were harder than others, but he kept showing up—motivated by the impact he was making. Over the following six months, Ravi took part in the Multiply Maths Tournament and enrolled on the Introduction to Bookkeeping course, both of which boosted his confidence and self-belief. He began encouraging others to take part. His calm presence and gentle coaching meant he succeeded in engaging learners previously disinterested or anxious. He attended courses alongside them to ease their nerves.
Ravi’s positivity began to shine. His laughter returned, and he began expressing a desire to register with the Job Centre and take steps toward paid work—something he hadn’t felt ready for before. Ravi has transformed not only his own life but the lives of those he supports. He constantly challenges himself, faces his struggles with courage, and gives others the confidence to do the same. His contributions, compassion, and quiet strength make him an outstanding volunteer.”
Well done Ravi !
